Salizan Takisvilainan, translated by C. J. Anderson-Wu
Angel’s Tear
For whom do you shed tears?
Why do you weep?
Is it because of your longing for the ocean?
For whom do you shed tears?
Why do you weep?
Have people irresponsibly discarded
what should never be left here?
For whom do you shed tears?
Why do you weep?
Have our tribal people forgotten
your name?
Located in Bunun’s traditional territory in eastern Taiwan, Jiaming Lake, known as Cidanuman Buan—Mirror of the Moon—in the Bunun language, is often referred to as “Angel’s Tear” by tourists.
